Taiping was once the administrative center of Perak state during the colonial-era, resulting in the many heritage buildings and landmarks of town still standing today. These include district offices, mansions, schools, club houses and parks, scattered around different parts of town. Many of these structures were historic 'firsts' in Malaysia.
Some of these monumental structures and locations include the first hill station (Bukit Larut), Lake Garden, English school, swimming pool, railway station and clock tower. As the town is small, it's more than possible to just walk around and explore all the heritage sights within a day, learning much about Taiping's colourful history in the process.
