Pekan is the royal town of Pahang State, located about 44km south of Kuantan. Rich in history and believed to exist since ancient times, Pekan is also the birthplace of Malaysia's second Prime Minister, Tun Abdul Razak. The house he grew up in can be visited at Pulau Keladi Cultural Village, nestled in the same area as the Pahang Royal Silk Weaving Center.
Other landmarks of interest include Istana Abu Bakar, Sultan Abu Bakar Museum, Sultan Abdullah Mosque Museum, Royal Mausoleum, Royal Pahang Polo Club, Pekan Riverfront and Watercraft Gallery. Pekan also houses the main campus of University Pahang Malaysia, while beautiful beaches can be found in the vicinity such as Pantai Air Leleh.
